What’s In My Name

Who am I you may ask

I am a person first and foremost

As we all do I have a story to tell

If you would stop and listen you may learn something

Some people ask

Some people assume

Others know me well enough not to ask

Or to even joke

In elementary I was first

Always -  no matter the order

By family or by given name

A blessing at times but a curse in others

Today I am grateful

Working with those that I do

It is easy and uncomplicated

Thus I use it daily

Some express it with love

Others with doubt

A few with jealousy

Many with curiosity

Have you guessed yet?

I am more than my name alone

A name is a label

However if I must

I have five initials

Abby shuang Fang christina buchanan

It took me to third grade to spell my last name alone

Don't ask about the middles - it won't happen

Who am I you may ask

I am a person first and foremost

As we all do I have a story to tell

If you would stop and listen you may learn something

Some people ask - Abigail?

Some people assume - Abigail.

Others know me well enough not to ask

Or to even joke - "Abigail"

At high school graduation I walked the stage with diploma in hand

The announcer was on my third name

She questioned pronunciation and how many to say

I will one day change this tongue twister

Today I am grateful

Working with it is quick

Not hard to say for those with disability

Thus I use it daily

Some express it with a please

Others with a smile

A few with excitement

Many with gratitude

Today

I will ask only one thing of you

My question is

What do you say it with?
