Red and Gold
July 14 2024
I have been inhaling various medias as I learn more about my biological heritage and adoption journey.
I read about a beautiful Asian tradition a few months ago and it has stuck with me. Its the tradition kintsigi. It is where something broken or chipped (topically pottery) is repaired stronger with gold seems. The people then see these items with ‘imperfections’ as unique or one of a kind and It is now valued higher than the original. It’s all about connection and unique values.
I think I resonated with this because it made me think of the red string belief but with a physical item stitched with gold.
The red string belief is that we are attached to someone special through a red string tied on each end to a person of your destiny or the one who you will change the world with. Most stories say the connection is pinky to pinky.
Personally, I dream that my red string is tied from my heart to my biological mother’s. Somewhere, I hope she knows I am loved, strong and living a life dedicated to helping others.
Whether its a red string or gold strokes I believe people are each meant for special things and in turn are attached to one another.
I am speeking from my own life experiences and opinions as a transracial adoptee. Please recognize everyone is entitled to their own views and may have different experiences.
