My Christmas Letter 2020
Merry Christmas - 2020 Style
`In January, I started the year off surrounded by friends and family, I was taking an online english class and I was working a job at one of the best hospitals in the world - Mayo Clinic.
In February, I was making a difference in the world as I continued working with transplant patients. I also had many adventures with friends and family. Covid started before we found out how long term this pandemic would impact our communities. I packed the closet with more toilet paper than I thought I would ever have in my house at one time.
In March, Covid was in full swing. Lives were changing daily. I moved out of my family apartment to quarantine away from my family so that I could continue working, I wrote a lot of good poetry. One of my best friends, Carol Dou, graduated (virtually) from college. I was disinfecting my groceries and door knobs as I walked into the house.
In April, I wrote letters to loved ones snail mail style just for fun. I was still living alone and working as a PCA. I moved into a new temporary apartment. I was happy to still be working when people around me were losing their livelihoods due to Covid.
In May, I continued to work and be with my family. Though our circle was small and limited in its members we found ways to keep busy and entertained. Thi dinner on Wednesday was a staple family bonding opportunity. I also started packing for another move. I went to Target with my dad for an outing (so to speak) and the highlight was finding a 3 pack of Lysol wipes.
In June, I signed a lease on my first (independent) apartment. I moved in and started to find places for all my treasures. Work continued as it only could in the time of a pandemic. I got a little curious about my genetics. Sadly the world decided to start rioting in the streets about injustice between communities and their differing beliefs. Also, I adopted my kitty, Athena. She is my loving, spunky and all around adorable cat.
In July, I got my results from 23 and me. Guess what - I’m Chinese, 94.2% to be exact. I continued to work and cope (as best I could ) with the circumstances Covid presented to us.
In August, I turned 23 and yes I worked on my birthday. Mom made me a delicious birthday diner. All I wanted was meatloaf and that was what I got. Around the end of the month Rochester had Greek fest and I introduced a friend to Baklava. I continued bonding with Athena and she wrapped me around her little paw.
In September, I spent some time in nature. The trees began turning colors and were beautiful. Athena and I have settled into a routine of laugh, cuddle, play and repeat.
In October, I was looking around at goodwill for different things and found a fish tank. It looked like it had been in someone's basement collecting dust so I cleaned it up and added a fish. Two fish, one which pulled a “Houdini” and vanished. I then named the remaining fish Brother. Why Brother? Every time I leave the house I (jokingly? I think…) tell Athena “... I love you, don’t eat your brother…” It sort of stuck and here we are a family of three.
In November, I was balancing work, school, play and R&R time with Athena and Brother. I spent Thanksgiving with my family and we took some 2020 fashion holiday pictures.
In December I … Well I don't know what I did as I'm composing this letter at the end of November. However, I'll take a stab at guessing. I hope that I have opened my blog publicly. If I have great; if you are still waiting I apologies for this. I am a writer and some of us are protective of our work as each piece contains a part of our souls. Finally, I hope I made the best of the end of 2020. I pray that I did my best to open 2021 with a grateful, open and happy heart. I hope I was ready to face new adventures with strength and gratitude.
Happy Holidays
